STEM Program
Dear Parents/Supporters of Salem Academy,

It has been a pleasure this year to rejoin the Salem Academy community. It is encouraging and exciting to work with the incredible faculty and staff here at SA as well as teach the amazing students sent our way.

Upon my return to Salem Academy I have taken on several different roles. One of those roles is STEM coordinator. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education has quickly moved to the forefront of education as an area of academic improvement our country is in need of. Salem Academy intends to do everything possible to stay on the cusp of STEM education and to provide your child with many different opportunities in STEM classes. We already offer 9 Advanced/Honors/AP STEM related classes at Salem Academy and are looking to add more in the future. Students are graduating from Salem Academy with up to a years worth of college credit.

As we continue to stay strong in this area, we are aware of the fact that we need to be mindful of our conection to what is happening in industry. Based on discussions I have had with several faculty and staff members, it has been identified that to keep an edge in the realm of STEM education it would be beneficial for Salem Academy to aquire 3D print technology. 3D printing is becoming an industry standard for prototyping and innovation in the engineering, medical, manufacuring, biology, automotive, and textile industries, to name a few.

Exposing students to 3D printing at the high school level gives them valuable experience and knowledge as they enter college or a career related to STEM. In addition, students will be presented with the opportunity to think creatively and bring their ideas to life through 3D printing.

Over the past few years, the investment in 3D printing technology has become achievable for high schools; however, there is still a pricetag to aquiring this technology. This is where we ask that you partner with Salem Academy in helping us build the funds necessary to bring this technology to our campus. With your help we are hopeful that we can raise $6,000 and begin to use the technology as early as March of this year and into the future.

If you would like to partner with us in aquiring this technology, please feel free to contact me at jgreenwood@salemacademy.org. If you have any questions, I would be happy to talk with you about 3D printing and its importance in STEM education.

Lastly, if you work in an industry that would like to help support education, let me know. I have an industry support letter that I would be happy to send them.

Regards,
